One Lovell resident killed in
crash, another seriously injured
A single vehicle crash
on Sunday, Jan 11, took the
life of 45-year-old Martin
Rubio Jr. of Lovell and left
passenger Cynthia Gilm-
ore, 47, also of Lovell se-
riously injured. The crash
occurred at 6:40 p.m. at
Milepost 185.7 on U.S.
Highway 20, approximately
10 miles south of Basin.
According to a report
released by the Wyoming
Highway Patrol, Rubio was
driving a 1994 Ford Explor-
er southbound on the high-
way at anunsafe speed on
the snow and ice packed
roadway and impaired driv-
ing is a contributing factor
being investigated in this
crash.
"Mr. Rubio lost control
of the Ford while negoti-
ating a right hand curve,"
stated the report. "After
overcorrecting the Ford,
the vehicle entered into a
counter-clockwise rotation
(spin) and left the roadway
down a steep embankment.
After leaving the highway
down the embankment, the
Ford rolled approximately
one and one-half times."
Rubio was not wearing
his seat belt and was ejected
from the vehicle during the
crash. He was transport-
ed by ground ambulance
to South Big Horn County
Hospital in Basin, where he
died from his injuries.
Gilmore, a passen-
ger in the vehicle during
the crash, was also eject-
ed. According to the report
she was not wearing a seat
belt. Gilmore was initially
transported by ground am-
bulance to South Big Horn
Hospital and then taken to
the Billings Clinic in Bill-
ings, where she was hospi-
talized. Her status was list-

From Our Files
FBI called in to search for Ted Louie
75 YEARS AGO, JAN. 18, 1940
The Lovell Chronicle
G.V. Cutler had the honor of throwing
the switch which energized the electric line
for the Deaver, Frannie, Cowley and Kane
sections. As he threw the switch, which en-
ergized nearly 80 miles of line, Mr. Cutler
remarked that the community had reached
a new step in the development of the Big
Horn Basin. The people on farms of this vi-
cinity have been living under pioneer con-
ditions but will now have the conveniences
of an urban community.
50 YEARS AGO, JAN. 14, 1965
The Lovell Chronicle
A letter to the FBI from a Lovell res-
ident triggered a search this week for the
body of Ted Louie, salesman who disap-
peared in Lovell about 14 years ago. The
information in the letter indicated that
Louie's body was buried in the basement
of the Shoshone Bar. Police officer began
their investigation early this week, but by
late Wednesday afternoon the investiga-
tion had not revealed any solution to the
mystery.
