County planner resign

After a brief execu-
tive session, the Big Horn
County commissioners,
"with extreme regret," ac-
cepted the resignation of
County Land Planner Jim
Waller.
Chairman Jerry
Ewen said the county and
Waller were parting on
good terms. According to
the commissioners, Waller
has taken a similar posi-
tion in Johnson County.
In his letter, Waller
wrote that his last official
day would be Feb. 29.
"I have been worl-
ing for Big Horn County
for over 10 years now. It
is my hope that you feel
I have served and repre-
sented the county well. I
have gained much knowl-
edge and understanding
of planning and GIS (geo-
graphic information sys-
tem) and will always ap-
preciate the chance Big
Horn County gave me
back in September 2001.
The opportunity to work
for and with Big Horn
County elected officials
and its citizens has been

a blessing and one that
led me to find my place
among friends and loved
ones.
"This has been a dif-
ficult decision for me, as
I have great loyalty and
appreciation to Big Horn
County, but it is the deci-
sion that is best suited for
me and my family at this
time."
Prior to the execu-
tive session, Waller had
announced that a public
hearing on the county sub-
division regulations has
been scheduled for 7 p.m.,
Feb. 7, in the commission-
ers' chambers.
Waller said the final
changes to the appendix
of the county's subdivi-
sion regulations were ap-
proved by the Big Horn
County Planning and Zon-
ing Commission at the De-
cember meeting.
He said the subdivi-
sion regulation changes
went along with the coun-
ty land use plan that was
approved in 2010.
"We've had a lot of
good discussion over the
past two months. I think
they are pretty sound. It's
a good attempt to keep as
close to state law as possi-
ble. They really aren't any
more stringent," Waller
said. He added that they
haven't received much
feedback.
In other planning
news, Waller said 32 sep-
tic permits were issued, 26
new addresses and they
had 24 compliance per-
mits that were approved
through the land planning
office.
"It was quiet but it
was a good year. We have
three septic systems in
our office for approval this
year already," Waller said.

*Treasurer Becky
Lindsey discussed the
wellness program and re-
quested a budget of $8,000
that would include well-
ness checks from the Wyo-
ming Health Fairs.
A long-term goal
would be to provide an ex-
ercise area onsite, perhaps
after the old jail is remod-
eled.
Grant moved to trans-
fer $8,000 from the health
insurance pool to get the
wellness program started.

Bank and Big Horn Fed-
eral were approved as the
official depositories for the
county.
*The commissioners
approved the Basin Re-
publican Rustler as the of-
ficial newspaper for 2012.
