Red hot freshmen keep season record perfect BY DAVID PECK The Lovell freshman/ sophomore boys ran their season record to a perfect 10-0 with four wins in the last three weeks. Coach RJ May's squad defeated Burlington at home on Feb. 4, 60-31, crushed Powell at home on Feb. 9, 66-30, beat the Cody Broncs in Cody last Thurs- day, 59-51, then concluded the season by stopping the Burlington Huskies Tues- day night in Burlington, 55-34. On Feb. 4, the Bull- dogs outscored the Burl- ington Huskies in all four quarters: 14-6, 22-15, 11-4 and 13-6. Cody Savage led a balanced attack with 14 points. CoUin McArthur and Dylan Hultgren added 10 points each, Ryan Clark 8, Hunter Hinekley and Tanner Rohrer 6 each, Mor- gan Baxendale 4 and Riteh McCollam 2. Last Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Bulldogs blitzed the Panthers 19-5 in the first quarter and 19-10 in the second to lead 38-15 at the half, then cruised from there to top Powell 66-30. Hinckley scored 16 points, Rohrer 13, Hultgren 10, McArthur 9, Baxendale, Clark and Savage 6 each. Thursday at Cody, the Bulldogs got off to a slow start and trailed 9-3 after the first quarter and 20- 17 at the half, then righted the ship and outscored the Broncs 42-31 in the second half to win the game 59-51. Baxendale scored 16 points, McKayan May 15, McAr- thur and Hultgren 10 each, Hinckley 6 and Rohrer 2. The Lovell freshmen] sophomores wrapped up the season at Burlington Tues- day night by clobbering the Burlington Huskies. Lovell led 20-17 at the half, then outscored the Huskies 35- 17 in the second half. Baxendale scored 17 points for the Bulldogs, Jake Wakelin, Ryan Clark and Hinckley 8 each, Hult- gren 6 and May and Rohrer 4 apiece. JVS SWEEP The Lovell junior varsi- ty squad improved its sea- son record to 12-5 with wins over Wind River, Burns and Riverside over the last two weeks. The Bulldogs beat Wind River at home on Feb. 5, 67-45. Lovell led 24-20 af- ter the first quarter, then broke the game wide open by outscoring the Cougars 19-1 in the second period. Cody Savage finished with 15 points to lead a balanced attack. Jared Minchow added 11, Aaron Clark 7, McKayan May and Collin McArthur 6 each, Hunter Hinckley 5, Steven Pick- ett and Ritch McCollam 4 apiece, Koti Johnson and Tanner Rohrer 3 each, Mor- gan Baxendale 2 and Jake Wakelin 1. On Feb. 6, the Bulldogs met the Burns Broncs in Douglas and defeated the Broncs 78-20, outscoring the Broncs by a wide mar- gin in each quarter: 20-7, 17-7, 19-4 and 22-2. Every member of the Lovell squad scored: Aar- on Clark 15, Savage and McArthur 8 each, Minchow, Hinckley and Rohrer 7 apiece, Dylan Hultgren and Wakelin 6 each, Johnson 4, McCollam 3, May, Pickett and Baxendale 2 each and Ryan Clark 1. The Bulldogs made it three in a row Friday night in Lovell by clobbering Riv- erside 64-24. Lovell got off to a strong start, outscoring the Rebels 24-2 in the first quarter and 18-6 in the sec- ond to lead 42-8 at the half. Lovell outscored Riverside 22-16 in the second half. Johnson scored 13 points, Wakelin 12, Rohrer 10, Baxendale 8, Minchow and Hinckley 6 each, Hult- gren 3 and Savage, May and Ryan Clark 2 each. The Bulldogs will host the Rocky Mountain Griz- zlies at the middle school tonight (Thursday) at 4:45, then travel to Fremont County Saturday to take on the Shoshoni varsity at 1:30 p.m. and St. Stephen's at 4:30. Grizzly freshmen finish season strong with Riverside win BY DAVID PECK The Rocky Mountain freshman boys wrapped up a busy late-season rush by defeating Greybull last Thursday, 47-43, clobber- ing the Riverside Rebels in Byron Monday night, 62-34, then beating Powell at home Tuesday night, 52-42. Thursday at Greybull, coach Josh Sponsers Griz- zlies trailed 10-5 after the first quarter but outscored the Buffaloes 15-6 in the sec- ond period to lead 20-16 at halftime. Each team scored 27 points in the second half as Rocky won by four. Michael Bernhisel led the Grizz with 13 points. Bryce Ward and Caleb Es- tes added 11 points each, Brandon Altman 7, Shane Wocicki 3 and Brady Win- land 2. Monday, night at home, Ward scored 11 points in the first quarter as the Grizz jumped out to a 19-8 lead. Estes scored 8 and Altman added 5 in the second period as the Grizz outscored the Rebels 21-8 to lead 40-16 at the half. The Grizz forged a 16-7 third-quarter advan- tage before Riverside came back to outscore the Grizz 11-6 in the fourth. Ward fmished with 20 points, Estes 17, Altman 13, Bernhisel 6, Wocicki 4 and Dalton Banks 2. The Grizz wrap up their season Tuesday night by hosting the Powell Pan- thers. The Grizzlies took an early lead by outscoring the Panthers 16-9 in the first quarter, then mostly traded baskets the rest of the way, leading 32-24 at the half, 38- 32 after three and 52-42 at the final buzzer. Ward scored 19 points, Bernhisel 16, Wocicki 6, Es- tes 5, Altman 4 and Winland ...... The win was the Seventh in a row for the Grizz, who finished the season with an 11-5 record. JVS SPLIT The Rocky Mountain JVs split their games over the weekend, falling at home to Greybull, 40-30, then blast- ing Riverside 62-26. In Byron Friday, the Grizz struggled early and trailed the Buffs 12-2 af- ter the first quarter, then played even with the Buffs the rest of the game. Alt- man, Bernhisel and Ward scored 6 points each for the Grizz, Derik Romer0 5, Tyrell Humphreys 4, Jessee Hernandez 2 and Wocicki 1. It was a different storyin Basin Saturday as the Griz- zlies blasted out of the start- ing gate and led the Rebels 25-7 after the first quarter, then gradually pulled away, outscoring the Rebs 10-4 in the second quarter, 15-4 in the third and 12-11 in the fourth ......
