Wow, what a year has gone by.
Our FFA chapter has since last Feb-
ruary competed in many district, re-
gional and state contests. In addition
to contests we have celebrated the
ending of a school year and the begin-
ning of another. We said farewell to
our seniors and officers and invited in
new ones.
Big Horn Country Fair came and
went along with State Fair. Since the
beginning of the school year we have
embarked in a journey with our mem-
bers to be more community oriented
and ag aware. Our adventures are still
coming and going as we approach our
state convention and preparations for
those contests we are competing in.
Here is a timeline since last Feb-
ruary:
March 2009: We competed in a few
local contests at Northwest College.
April 2009" State FFA Convention
was held in Cheyenne and we took
a livestock judging team (members
Cody Gifford, Kris Hutchinson and
Wes Mangus), a horse judging team
(members Cody, Kris and Wes), an ex-
temporaneous speaker, Galen Wedde
and six students who received their
State FFA Degree - Cody, Kris, Wes,
Jonathan Wakelin, Casey Ellis and
Jake Leonhardt. Other students went
as delegates for our chapter.
-Lovell FFA Banquet - We held
our annual banquet the 24th of
April. In this banquet we honored
those members who received their
Greenhand Degrees (Bobby Tip-
petts, Cody Clark, Eli Moody, Ga-
len Wedde, Maci May, Matthew
Martinez, Mike Tippetts, Preston
McCollam and Ritch McCollam);
and Chapter Degrees (Jacob Wake-
lin). We honored four members
of our community for their help
and support during the 2008-2009
school year: (Bret George, Rebecca
George, Josephine Crosby and Aus-
tin and Merlyn Gibbons).
We released our old officer team:
President Cody Gifford, Vice-Pres-
ident Wes Mangus, Secretary Kris
Hutchinson, Reporter Johnathan
Wakelin, Treasurer Jacob Wakelin,
Sentinal Jake Leonhardt.
u, We installed our new officer team:
President Jonathan Wakelin, Vice-
President Casey Ellis, Secretary Eli
Moody, Repo er Maci May, Trea-
surer Preston McCollam.
August 2009: Big Horn County Fair
is a great event for the students to be
involved in. We had these students
compete in market swine and FFA
Showmanship: Cody Gifford, Kris
Hutchinson, Eli Moody, Maci May
and Preston McCollam. Some of these
individuals also competed in different
contests ranging from horses, live-
stock judging and zucchini carving.
o-Wyoming State Fair was held in
Douglas and Kris Hutchinson com-
peted in FFA showmanship and
market swine.
October 2009: With the arrival of
winter comes the letting out of water
in the canal systems. This year the
Lovell FFA took a day out of school
to help relocate fish from the canals
to the rivers. Also in the month of Oc-
tober we spent an afternoon cleaning
up our section of highway. We plan on
continuing this service twice a year.
We also had three students compete
in the NILE FFA Livestock Judging
contest, Jesse Bassett, Cody Clark
and Preston McCollam.
November 2009: The Finding In-
spiration and Reaching Excellence
(FIRE) Conference was held in Doug-
las and five FFA members attended:
Dominique Allred, Preston McCollam,
Cody Clark, Drew Stevens and Anya
Brightly. These students spent two
days learning about leadership, char-
acter, integrity and how to change 'To-
morrow's Headlines' by how they act
today.
January 2010: The start of a' new
year has brought on many different
opportunities. Our FFA chapter is
working on finding information on ca-
reers of our choice. We went to the Ag-
riculture Expo in Billings to tour the
many different vendors and careers
available to us. We are also going to
do this same career search in March
of this year. Also in January we were
honored to have two state FFA offi-
cers come and visit our chapter and
talk more on character and integrity.
February 2010: So far this month
we have been getting two students
ready to compete at the district FFA
speaking contests. Anya Brightly and
Shyann Wilske competed on Feb. 16
for the opportunity to represent the
Lovell FFA Chapter in the Creed
speaking contest. Both students did
really well and Shyann was in the top
three and will compete on Feb. 23 at
the regional FFA speaking contest.
This month is also when we cele-
brate National FFA Week and as
a school we are celebrating by in-
forming the students of Lovell High
School about agriculture and FFA
and the importance of both. We are
also having a barbeque with the
members and their families to show
support for those who have helped
along the way.
The Lovell FFA Chapter is work-
ing on many different contests so stu-
dents can go and compete at State Con-
vention this April, and we're working
in our greenhouse. Thanks for revisit-
ing this year with us and celebrating
the importance of agriculture and the
National FFA Organization.
