12 I The Lovell Chronicle I March 5, 2015 BY DAVID PECK It's tough playing with your senior center not up to full speed. With Emilee Reasch seeing limited ac- tion while recovering from a knee injury, the Lovell Lady Bulldogs split their final games of the regular season, beating Lander 43-34 on se- nior night Friday at home, then falling to Powell on the road Saturday, 42-32. It took a while for the Lady Bulldogs to get going Friday, and they only out- scored Lander 13-11 in the first half. Reasch started as a senior, then sat down for the rest of the contest. "It may have been their emotions on senior night and Emilee not being able to play," Lovell coach Chris Edwards said. "It was a lackluster first half for our offensive efficiency. The girls were just missing open shots. In the second half we told the girls to relax and have more confidence in themselves. "In the first half we missed a couple of shots and started second-guess- ing ourselves. Then in the second half Mykelle (Nich- ols) hit three three-pointers in the third quarter to spark us, and Lauren (Hinckley) started attackinginside against their zone." Nichols' trio of treys and Hinckley's three buck- ets allowed Lovell to out- score Lander 18-17 in the third quarter to lead 31-28, and they pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the visi- tors 12:6. "Defensively, we failed to execute the game plan and allowed them to get four or five clean basket cuts in their five-out offense," Ed- wards said. "In the fourth quarter we did a better job, and once we got a lead we went into our spread of- fense and forced Lander to play man instead of their 2-3 zone. We were able to break them down and get some easy baskets in the half-court offense." Nichols finished with ,16 points and three as- sists, Chayli McArthur 10 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Hinckley added 9 points and four rebounds, Savanna Savage 5 points and five boards, LANDER (34) Kelsey Nelson 1 0-0 2, Keeley Garvin 4 3-4 11, Katie Erickson 2 0-3 4', Alyssa Logue 3 0-0 7, Drew Deking 0 3-4 3, Keesha Rowan 3 0-0 7. LOSS AT POWELL The Lady Bulldogs struggled at Powell Satur- day, seeming unsettled and out of sync against a strong Powell squad in a 42-32 loss. Lovell trailed 14-6 af- ter the first quarter, 24-16 Lovel[-senior guard Lauren Lady Tigers on senior night at noon today (Thursday) in at halftime and 34-22 after three quarters before edg- ing the home team 10-8 in the fourth. "We didn't move the ball very well," Edwards said. "Powell played us man the entire night. Instead of passing the ball and execut- ing our half-court offense, we broke down and tried to beat them one on one. That proved to be a struggle for us. This was the first game all year we've looked slug- gish against a man defense. "We played a little tight without Emilee again, which was disappointing. She played about five min- utes, playing with a brace: We wanted to see how her knee would react to game competition, but without a full week of practice we were leery of turning her loose. She felt a little bit of pain but felt comfortable with her knee. She appeared to be able to move comfortably in the flow of the game." The Lady Bulldogs didn't have a player reach ' : ~:.- 'J! Barracudas BY SAM SMITH The North Big Horn Barracudas will be taking nine swimmers to State this Friday-Sunday in Laramie. NBH traveled to Riverton for the Big Horn Basin Conference meet Feb. 21-22. Anna Fuller took first in the 200-yard freestyle at Riverton with a time of 2:37.35 and also placed first in the 500-yard free- style, swimming in at 6:48.95. "She out-touched the second-place swimmer by .03 seconds for a first- place finish in the 200 free," coach Ross Full- er said. "She had a great meet placing in the top five in every event she swam." Ariana Joksow placed first in the 500-yard free, swimming in at 6:06.16, and placed second in the 200 free with a time of 2:19.76. "Ariana finally im- proved her time in the 200 and the 500 free," Fuller said. Richard Spann placed first in the 200-yard but- terfly by finishing the race in 3:01.58. "Richard, likewise, swam a killer event," Full- er said. "He took first in that event and also placed in the top five in all other events he swam. "Our relay team (Seth Fuller, Richard Spann, Aly Schneider and Jared Fuller) took third out of 18 entries in the medley re- lay to beat out Powell and Worland in a very close race. It was awesome. "We had 19 kids com- peting for the LOCO's (North Big Horn Barra- cudas)," Fuller added. "They all swam exception- ally well and almost every swimmer on the team im- proved on their times at conference, including the little ones."
