a letter of support for the
Big Horn County Search
and Rescue to be included
in the state firefighter re-
tirement program. Captain
Dan Anders said having the
retirement would help with
recruitment and retention.
Sheriff Ken Blackburn
said the south search and
rescue qualifies because
it handles extrication at
crashes. He said it is uncer-
tain if the north unit would
qualify because they don't
currently handle extrica-
tion. Another element is
that south search and res-
cue also responds to wild-
land fires.
"We're working to qual-
ify the south unit," Black-
burn said, adding that he
is continuing to do research
on the north unit.
Anders added that they
also have a Cascade sys-
tern to allow them to fill air
tanks for firefighters.
Anders also talked to
the commissioners about a
new facility. He said they
need about $20,000 to fix
the current facility. He pro-
vided plans the search and
rescue originally submitted
in 2008.

Anders said the plans
are for similar facili-
ty to Greybull's new fire
hall, which was built for
$400,000.
"I just wanted to get
this on your minds," Anders
said.
He added that he would

An electrical short
sparked a fire in an attic at
a Lovell home Sunday af-
ternoon, but firemen were
able to snuffthe smoldering
blaze before it erupted.
The Lovell Volunteer
Fire Dept. was called to the
Davila home at 125 Car-
man Sunday at 3:22 p.m.
after an occupant called to
say there was smoke in the
attic of the home, LVFD
Captain Bob Mangus said.
Mangus said an inves-
tigation showed that a ceil-
ing fan in a bathroom had
shorted out and the wiring
leading to the fan heated
up and started trusses in
the attic on fire.
"We ventilated it to
prevent smoke from fill-
ing the downstairs and to
air out the attic," Mangus
said. "One of our guys went
into the attic, pulled the in-
sulation away and put out
the fire...It was smolder-

Joyce enjoyed having
her family around her all
of the time. She loved the
sound of her grandchil-
dren's laughter, gardening,
helping others, being in-
volved in church activities,
teaching her young women,
and being a den leader for
her Scouts. She loved Ha-
waii, lying on the beach lis-
tening to the waves, and
loved the long walks on the
beach with her husband
Phil.
Joyce is survived by
her husband Phil Duvall,
of Sheridan; two broth-
ers, Jim House of Sheridan
and John House of Tekoa,
Wash.; one daughter; Me-
lissa Florez of Roanoke,
Va., and three sons; Gerry
and Eric Florez of Sheridan
and Jeff Duvall of Sheri-
dan. She is also survived
by nine grandchildren, one
nephew and three nieces.
A viewing will be held
from 6 to 8 p.m on Thurs-
day, May 3, 2012, at Kane
Funeral Home. Funeral
Services for Joyce will be
held at 1 p.m. on Friday,
May 4, 2012 at the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-

held at 11 a.m. prior to the
service at the c.hurch. In-
