Ode to the Class of 1961

So, here we sat after 50
years. We've had some fun,
we've had some tears. A few of
us couldn't make the occasion
Because of health, death or lack
of persuasion. And some who
did make it to the golden affair
Brought more weight than hair.
And by golly we won't mention
names For fear of upsetting a
few new flames. But some of
our stars have lost their pep And
our cheerleaders have slowed a
step. And those voted most likely
to Have found likely a little tough
to do.
Fifty years ago we had the bull-
dog by the tail, Now we know what
is like to try, then fail. Fifty years
ago we thought we'd invented the
wheel, The world looked at US and
said, "Big deal." Now fifty years
later who gives a damn? We've
done all right, thank you ma'am.
We like what we've lived and
we ain't done bad. We've stayed
the course; no one night stand.
We may not have a single Nobel
Laureate, But we are an interest-
ing bunch, you bet. We gathered,
remembered, feasted and roast-
ed. We floated, boated, picnicked,
visited and boasted. Then we ate
again, ate everything laid out. Af-
ter all night cooking, baking and
no time out. Thanks to each who
contributed work or dollars, Who
made it happen, who made it fun
for all of us. But hey, enough of
the olden memories, We all start
right now making new stories.
