Bischoffs, Green capture Pioneer Day Golf Tournament at The trio of Jay and Jake Bischoff and Brian Green captured the annu- al Cowley Pioneer Day Golf Tournament Friday at Fos- ter Gulch. Doug Harrison, Casey Trautman and Ben Fowler combined for second place, Foster Gulch course followed by the team of Schuyler, Hunter and Lau- ren Hinckley in third and the threesome of Jimmy Graham, Craig Trumbull and Bruce Wolsey in fourth. Deuces were shot by the Hinckley team, the Graham/Trumbull/Wol- sey team and the Harrison/ Trautman/Fowler team. Winning flag prizes were David Hayes Casey Trautman (2), Brian Green, Peggy Denzin, Jimmy Gra- ham, Julie Frost, Dave Frost, Lauren Hinckley and Cameron Frates (2). Legends team wins Pioneer Day volleyball BY SAM SMITH The Cowley Pioneer Day Volleyball Tournament spiked into action Saturday in Cowley. Seven teams bumped and set their way through double-elimination bracket play for a spot into the championship game. "It was a very good turnout," tourna- ment coordinator Jamie Cooley said. "I think everybody had fun." During bracket play, the championship game came down to two teams, the Legends team, coached by Tara Mikkelsen, and the Skyballers team, coached by Austin Ellis. The Legends made their way to the championship game by winning three matches in bracket play. The Skyballers made their way he championship game by winning their-first two matches and los- ing to the Legends team earlier in the tour- nament. They won their match in the con- solation bracket to earn a spot in the title game. In the championship game, the Sky- ballers gave the Legends their first loss of the tournament in two straight games, 21- 16 and 21-15, to force a second match due to the double-elimination format. In the second match, the Legends came back to win the tournament in two straight games, 21-17 and 21-18. "It was a good, well run tournament," Legends player Donny Owen said. "There was some good sportsmanship and good competition. Thanks to the city of Cowley for an awesome tournament." Players for the Legends team were Mikkelsen, Jennifer McKibben, Donny Owen, Jason Winzenried, Stephan Cornell, Patty Kier and Tess Perry. Players for the Skyballers team were Ellis, Dino Collins, Emilee Reasch, Ryan Clark, Amanda Clark and Leanne Winterholler. Caldwells reach for finish line in Pioneer Day Fun Run BY DAVID PECK Siblings Jaclyn and James Caldwell raced to the finish line neck and neck Sat- urday morning as the first two finishers of the Cowley Pioneer Day Fun Run. Jaclyn won the mile with a time of 6:58, and James was hot on his sister's heels at 6:59 as the top female and male finishers, respectively, in the mile. Collin McArthur won the men's 5K with a time of 18:47, and Susie Robertson was the top female 5K runner at 23:34. Teagan Townsend and Remi Rusch both won the 5K bicycle race, tying with a time of 13:35. Ronn Smith won the Cannery Road bike loop at 21:41, and April Nicholls was the top female finisher at 24:38. The youngest competitor Saturday was Amanda Snyder, age 3, and the oldest was Blake Smith, 79.
