The Affordable Care Act is bringing big changes to health insur-
ance. The Wyoming Insurance Department and the more than 1,100
insurance companies doing business in the state want to help you through
these changes with some answers to frequently asked questions:
How do I get health insurance?
You may apply for, compare and enroll in various health insur-
ance programs through the new federal Health Insurance Marketplace
by visiting www.healtheare.gov. There, you'll also be able to find if
you qualify for public health programs such as Medicaid or CHIP, or if
you can obtain tax credits or subsidies.
You will still be able to obtain coverage through private insurance
companies as well. Remember that subsidies are only available through
the federal Marketplace.
When can I purchase insurance?
The open enrollment period for plans in the Health Insurance
Marketplace begins Oct. 1 and ends March 31, 2014. Plans purchased
during open enrollment will be in effect for the calendar year 2014. To
obtain coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2014, you must enroll before Dec. 15.
What if I need help on the Health Insurance Marketplace?
Representatives at the Federal Call Center (1-800-318-2596) will
help you apply for, compare and enroll in health plans. TTY users should
call 1-855-889-4325.
"Navigators" will provide personal, one-on-one assistance to help
you fill out applications and enroll in health insurance plans. To locate
help in your area, dial 2-1-1 or visit www.wyoming211.org
What about fraud?
Remember this simple rule -- never give your personal informa-
tion to anyone who approaches you unsolicited. And you should never
have to pay for help getting registered for insurance through the Health
Insurance Marketplace.
If you have questions or concerns, contact the Wyoming Insurance
Department at 1-800-438-5768.
