'A Hero's Homecoming' continues at RMHS
BY DAVID PECK
Homecoming activities
at Rocky Mountain High
School continue through
Saturday this week as
RMHS celebrates "A Hero's
Homecoming," culminating
with football and volleyball
games against Burlington
on Friday.
Student council sponsor
Sally Bernhisel said the idea
behind the theme is to cel-
ebrate local heroes like sol-
diers, as well as get across
the idea in Rocky Mountain
schools that "Grizzlies are
our heroes," she said.
Activities began Mon-
day with Pajama Day, with
students wearing night
clothes to school. In home
rooms, students planned
and prepared bulletin
boards, locker decorations,
banners and sidewalk art
to be put up on Wednes-
day.
Tuesday was Fan Day,
with students wearing the
apparel of their favorite
college or pro teams. Vot-
ing for royalty was con-
ducted in home rooms.
Wednesday was Class
Color Day, and the annu-
al Homecoming Olympics
were held at the auxiliary
gym with seniors and stu-
dent council advisors in
charge.
Thursday is Hero/Vil-
lain Day, and senior girls
will spray paint the griz-
zly head logo on the foot-
ball field and the metal
RM near the football field.
The senior boys will gather
wood for the bonfire.
The junior class will
sponsor the annual Navajo
Taco Dinner from 4:30 to
7 p.m. at the "Great Hall"
(cafeteria/commons), and
the bonfire and pep rally
will begin at 7 p.m. at the
south end of the football
field in Cowley. The rally
will include cheers, a fan
participation game, the in-
troduction of teams with
coaches speaking and se-
niors recognized, the band
performing, a senior Skit
and the announcement of
the royalty.
BUSY FRIDAY
Friday is Brown and
Gold Day, and new to the
celebration, Bernhisel said,
are the class skits at 9 a.m.
in the Great Hall. Middle
school students will be able
to attend the skits, she
said.
Following the skits,
students will assemble
behind the school for the
homecoming parade, with
school organizations pro-
viding "floats" for the pa-
rade, which will wind its
way through Cowley to the
elementary school. A school
drum line will provide a ca-
dence for the parade, and
national guardsmen will
assist with the event, Bern-
hisel said.
Elementary students
will greet the parade out-
side of the school and stu-
dents young and old will
join together for a snake
dance around the school,
with everyone ending up
inside for a school assembly
and pep rally. High school
students will be handing
out Grizz sports cards.
Rocky will take the field
at 2 p.m. to take on Burl-
ington in the first game to
be played at the new Rocky
Mountain Middle/High
School Field in Cowley.
Volleyball matches against
the Lady Huskies will fol-
low at 5 (freshmen), 6 (JVs)
and 7 p.m. at the new gym.
Friday's busy slate of
activities will wrap up with
a movie night at the school
beginning at 9 p.m., or-
ganized by the freshmen.
Movies will be shown in
both the library and the
Great Hall. Concessions
will be available.
Homecoming Week will
conclude Saturday with the
dance from 9 p.m. to mid-
night at the Great Hall.
