Grizzly seventh-
graders take second,
eighth-graders
consolation champs

The Rocky Mountain
Middle School boys bas-
ketball squads traveled to
their respective Yellow-
stone Conference Tour-
naments Saturday as the
seventh grade traveled
to Thermopolis and the
eighth grade headed to
Greybull.
The seventh-grade
squad opened up the tour-
nament facing the Lovell
Mustangs. Rocky defeat-
ed Lovell 40-10 as Brenen
Hinekley poured in 17
points for the Grizz and
Trent Grohman added 10,
Travis Simmons 6, Jude
Lewis 4, Caden Welling 2
and Dominic Estes 1.
With the win, Rocky
advanced to the semifinal
round to meet up with the
Powell Cubs. Rocky de-
feated Powell in a thriller
38:36 as Hinckley scored
18 and Grohman added
12, Justin Dausman, Es-
tes, Simmons and Welling
2 apiece.
With the thrilling win,
the Grizz advanced to the
championship game to
face the Worland Braves.
Rocky fell to Worland 61-
36 to finish second in the
conference tournament.
Grohman led the Grizz
with 16 points and Tra-
vis Simmons added 11,
Hinckley 6 and Welling 3.
The seventh-grade
squad was coached by Rod
Winland and they fin-
ished the season with a
record of 13-3.
EIGHTH GRADE
The eighth-grade
squad fell to Worland in
Greybull Saturday 49-29
to open up the conference
tournament. Ethan Price
scored 11 points for the
Grizz and Will Preator
added 9, Ross Padilla 7
and Kyler Muffet 2.
With the loss, the
Grizz fell into the con-
solation bracket to face
the Thermopolis Bobcats.
Rocky defeated Thermo-
polis 49-25 as Padilla
poured in 19 points for the
Grizz and Preator added
13, Price 11 and Jett Win-
land and Muffet 2 each.
The win put Rocky into
the consolation champion-
ship game with the Bur-
lington Huskies. Rocky
defeated the Huskies 39-
31 to win the consolation
championship. Padilla
scored 17 points for the
Grizz and Price added 14,
Preator 6 and Muffet 2.
The eighth-grade
team was coached by Josh
Sponsel and finished the
season with a record of
11-5.
Mustangs 0-2 in conference tournaments

The Lovell Middle
School boys basketball
squads finished the sea-
son at their respective con-
ference tournaments Sat-
urday as the seventh grade
traveled to Thermopolis and
the eighth grade headed to
Greybull.
The eighth-grade team
opened up the tournament
in Greybull facing the host
Buffs. The Mustangs fell to
Greybull 57-23 as Brenden
Lundberg scored 9 points for
Lovell and Mat Savage add-
ed 6, Kelly Powell and Hunt-
er Steenbakkers 4 apiece.
With the loss, Lovell fell
into the consolation brack-
et to face the Burlington
Huskies. Lovell fell to the
Huskies 27-20. Savage and
Lundberg scored 5 points
each for the Mustangs and
Kaleb Snyder and Steenbak-
kers added 3 apiece, Ethan
Hessenthaler and Powell 2
each.
"It was a disappointing
tournament," Coach RJ May
said, "but my kids learned a
lot."
Assisting May this sea-
son was Chase Haughian.
SEVENTH GRADE
The seventh-grade
team opened up the tourna-
ment in Thermop by facing
the Rocky Mountain Grizz.
Lovell fell to Rocky 40-10
as Hunter Harris scored 6
points for Lovell and Canon
Click and Zane Hitz added 2
apiece.
With the loss, the Mus-
tangs fell into the consola-
tion bracket to meet up with
Thermopolis for the conso-
lation championship. Lovell
fell to Thermopolis 38-14.
Hitz scored 6 points for
Lovell and Dominic Hunder
added 4, Harris and Click 2
each.

Barracudas take fifth
at Worland Sugar Beet
Dash Saturday/Sunday

The North Big Horn
Barracudas took 12
swimmers to Worland
to participate in the
Worland Sugar Beet
Dash Saturday and
Sunday. About 180 to
200 swimmers attended
the Worland meet.
The Barracudas
took fifth out of 10
teams with a team score
of 275 points. Richard
Spann scored 69 points
for the Barracudas
and Ariane Joskow 54,
Alyssa Schneider 45,
Cindy Baumstarck 43
and Anna Fuller 22.
